Flax, sunflower, sesame seeds, wheat germ, whole wheat flour, oatmeal make these cookies somewhat healthy. The butter and sugar don't help the cause. Thus, 'somewhat' healthy.
Students learnt about super foods today. Kale is one of those special foods and is the only vegetable that can grow year round outside in Metro Vancouver. Smoothies are a good way to 'hide it' in its raw form. Students made extra dough for their whole wheat pizzas so we decided to have a little IRON CHEF competition. Students were given 60 minutes to come up with a finished product. Some ended up sweet and others savory. We had pizza pockets, calzones, cinnamon buns, a canucks logo andWe haven't gone over presentation yet but you can see that some were already searching on youtube some techniques. The winners will presented with the coveted championship belts next week to wear proudly! Well we didn't make our own pizza sauce this time but it's generally a pretty healthy pizza. I didn't allow too much cheese but that was because of my frugal ways and not the health aspect ;). Students got to make a quick bread of their choice. Here is a selection ranging from buttermilk biscuits to muffins "Hey Mr McCallum, can we make pancakes like in this you tube video." Response.....absolutely...pancakes can be a little boring Students made cheese and onion bread sticks today. With the extra dough, we had a little competition on who could make the best bread art. Bragging rights were on the line along with the coveted spot on Mr McCallum's website. Winners also had the option of taking an entire apple home as a present. Editors note: no apples were actually taken |
